Fun Fact
Did you know that while the Montessori method originated in Italy with Dr. Maria Montessori, its journey in the United States faced an early setback? Introduced in the early 1900s, it quickly fell out of favor with American educators. However, a remarkable revival occurred in the 1950s, largely thanks to the tireless efforts of Nancy McCormick Rambusch, who went on to found the American Montessori Society (AMS) in 1960. Her dedication helped re-establish Montessori as a recognized and respected educational system across the U.S.! This historical narrative demonstrates the method’s inherent strength and the dedication of its advocates, highlighting the enduring power of visionary leadership and adaptation within the Montessori movement.
