North Carolina Becomes First State to Opt-In to Federal School Choice Program
In a significant policy development, North Carolina has passed legislation to join the federal Educational Choice for Children Act (ECCA). This makes it the first state to opt into the program, which provides tax credits for donations to scholarship-granting organizations. These scholarships can help families cover costs for private school tuition, special education services, and other educational expenses, potentially expanding access to private Montessori schools for more students. Love seeing a new Montessori open in Florida β do they serve infants/toddlers or just primary? For the D.C. leadership talks, were there any concrete steps on pay equity and guide pipelines, or mostly big-picture?
Pumped about the Florida opening β anyone know if theyβre launching with full 3β6 and 6β9 environments or phasing in? Really hoping the D.C. leadership talks get specific about guide pipelines and pay equity, because thatβs what will sustain this buzz.
We opened with one 3β6 and added 6β9 in year two; phasing gave us time to mentor assistants and build consistent routines. On pay equity, publishing salary bands and a clear assistant-to-lead pathway tied to credentials made retention and budgeting much smoother.
Phasing worked for us: we opened 3-6 first and blocked Fridays 1-3 p.m. as an βassistant practicumβ to rehearse presentations, practice neutral language, and align on room resets - made year-two 6-9 a calm start. On pay equity, publishing salary bands with steps tied to credential level and years in role kept offers consistent and cut the back-and-forth.
