Creating an inclusive space for all abilities

I’ve been working with children with diverse abilities in a Montessori setting and I’m continuously amazed by their unique ways of learning. Recently, we introduced weighted blankets during quiet time, and it really seemed to help some of the kids feel more secure and focused. I’m curious about how others incorporate such tools or techniques for individualized learning in their environments.

I’ve found that incorporating sensory bins can really engage children with diverse abilities during learning. Last year, we used a bin filled with rice and various tools to enhance fine motor skills, and it worked wonders for their concentration. Sometimes simple, tactile experiences can make all the difference.

Weighted blankets are a fantastic idea! We started using noise-canceling headphones during group activities, and it really helps some of the kids stay focused. It’s amazing how these small adjustments make such a difference.

It’s great to hear about the positive impact of weighted blankets — i’ve had success with adding visual schedules to help kids understand the flow of the day. This way, they can anticipate transitions and know what’s coming next, which can reduce anxiety during quieter moments.

I love how weighted blankets can offer comfort! We’ve tried using calming visuals, like calming color lights, which helped some kids find their focus after transitions. Sometimes it’s like finding the right puzzle piece — it just clicks! @penelope_per48, have you tried any visual aids?

Introducing weighted vests during active play has made a difference for some kids! Have you tried incorporating similar tools?

We’ve had some luck with using noise-canceling headphones during certain activities — it’s like giving the kids a bubble of focus in a busy world. @rachel_turner12, have you ever tried them? They can really help some kids tune out distractions.
