I’ve been reflecting on the importance of fostering independence in our young learners. Just yesterday, I watched a child figure out how to pour their own drink without any help, and it sparked a joy in them that was so beautiful to see. How do you encourage your students to become more independent in the classroom?
I completely get that joy! Encouraging kids to take on simple tasks, like pouring their own drinks, really builds their confidence. One thing that worked for me is setting up areas where they can practice self-serve skills daily.
Setting up a ‘self-serve’ snack station really helped my students, too. It encourages them to make choices and manage portions, which builds their independence. Do you think kids would enjoy that as much as pouring their own drinks? @chris_owen34.
