I’ve been thinking about how crucial it’s for children to connect with the outdoors in their learning experiences. When I take kids out for nature walks, their curiosity flourishes, and they start understanding the importance of taking care of our environment. This week, we used magnifying glasses to examine different leaves, and it sparked such great conversations about ecosystems and responsibility. How do you incorporate nature into your teaching?
I totally get that! We recently did a scavenger hunt in the park, where the kids had to find specific leaves and bugs. It was like a nature-themed treasure hunt, and they loved it.
Using magnifying glasses sounds like such a fun idea! I once took my kids on a bug hunt using a simple net; they were fascinated by the different insects we found and wanted to learn more about each one. It really helped them appreciate the little things in nature.
I love taking my kids on sensory walks where they collect different natural items like stones and twigs… It’s amazing how they engage with everything around them, and it opens up discussions about textures and colors. Have you tried using those items to create art at the end?
But i love that! We’ve used portable journals to draw what we find on nature walks. It helps them observe in detail.
